Things to Always Tell an Employer Before Accepting a Job Offer

You’ve perfected your resume to make it to the job interview, and now you’ve aced that, too. In fact, a company with a new position just made you a job offer. This is great news, but now it’s time to have another conversation with human resources before signing on the dotted line. There might be a few things you have questions about, or you might need to disclose some additional information to make sure you start the job on the right foot. Either way, you can’t ignore these items. Make sure you alert a future employer about these things before accepting their offer.

1. You think the pay is too low

First things first: You should always ask for some time to review the offer, even if you feel the urge to accept right away. That will give you time to make sure you’re satisfied with the offer — including the pay. It used to be commonplace to expect a raise after working at a company for a year or so. But some companies are takingnontraditional approaches to future raises, and others don’t have the capacity to provide them at all. Plus, the typical 3% raise won’t lead to any life-changing rewards in the coming years. In other words: Make sure you’re content with the starting salary, and if you’re not, negotiate to try to make it higher. Most employers will expect some negotiation with the first salary they offer, U.S. News & World Report states. Try replying to the HR contact, stating your enthusiasm for the job, but saying you believe your skills warrant a higher salary. Make sure to include the figure you have in mind, and see what happens from there. (If this is all new to you, U.S. News offers a way to begin that conversation.)
According to Monster, the key is to make the request a positive one. Emphasize your desire to join the team, but perhaps write that you need a little extra compensation to justify the switch from your current role to a new one at their company. If this is the first time you’ve negotiated anything in a job offer, Payscaleoffers another comprehensive tutorial about what to evaluate, and how to ask for items you feel are lacking.

2. You have a pre-planned vacation on the calendar

You might be getting married, and have a honeymoon that’s already booked two months from now. Or, there’s a family vacation that you’ve never missed, or an anniversary trip that’s going to take you away from the office for a week or so. You didn’t bring it up during the interview process, because you wanted to avoid looking flaky. But now it’s time to have that conversation with HR, before you’re officially on the payroll.
According to a forum on Stack Exchange, you likely have a number of ways to approach this. Mention that this trip has been planned in advance of your search, and remain flexible about how that can be accommodated if at all possible. If the trip is coming up within the next few weeks, it might be best to wait until starting afterward. If it’s a few months from now, ask whether it’s possible to go negative in your paid time off (if you won’t accrue enough vacation days by that point), or ask if it’s possible to take the time without pay.
“… Try the language of deal-making rather than the language of worry,” advises career strategist John Lees in an article for Harvard Business Review. “Instead of identifying your vacation as a problem issue, mention it in passing as one of the minor things that need to be tidied up before you join, alongside finessing your contract and role description.”
If you can stay positive and emphasize what you bring to the table rather than an attitude of detracting from the company’s goals, you most likely won’t have a problem with keeping to your vacation schedule.

3. You don’t understand the compensation or benefits

If you’re switching to a new industry or career role, the compensation model might be different from what you’re used to. Perhaps this is the first salaried position you’ve received, or a significant portion of your annual income is from bonuses or commissions. If that’s the case, be sure to ask any questions you have, so you’re not taken by surprise later. As Payscale points out, some benefits packages are actually worth quite a bit of money, but you’ll want to have a clear view of that before accepting the offer.
As Katie Douthwaite Wolf writes on The Muse, there can be a million other factors that go into your compensation package. Some might offer profit sharing, others might have stock options or other perks that are technically part of your compensation. If you don’t understand these fully, you’ll be slightly in the dark about how much you’re actually getting paid for your skills.
In addition, make sure you have a clear picture of the benefits package, and what it will mean for your bottom line. You might be willing to have a higher deductible or pay out of pocket for dental services if the rest of the new gig is stellar. However, you should be aware of those impacts to your own personal budget ahead of time. If the language is unclear about these in your job offer, you should take the time to get clarity from HR. If you need a quick refresher, here’s a comprehensive list of the most common components of a benefits offer.

4. You need an extension to review the offer

It’s typical to take a day or even up to two or three to evaluate a job offer. Once you’ve asked for (and received) that time, you’ll need to let HR know if you need additional time. Perhaps the paperwork is complicated, or you simply need another few days to consider the change. This is likely acceptable, but your future employer doesn’t want radio silence while you weigh your options. They want to know that you’re interested in the job, and invested in making a smart choice that will ultimately pay off for them, too.
“Make sure you have a concrete and appropriate reason for asking for an extension. Expecting to hear soon from another employer with whom you’ve interviewed is a legitimate reason. If you’re just hoping to get more interviews, that’s not a concrete reason,” advises the career services department at Virginia Tech.
Most experts advise calling your HR contact to discuss the extension, rather than handling it all over email. (You should, however, confirm the arrangement in writing via email afterward.) Remain professional, but you should expect to provide a reason for the extension, along with an estimated time frame. Tell your contact that you need additional time to look over the offer, or whatever your reason is. Keep in mind that the company might have other candidates they risk losing if the process drags on for too long, so approach the conversation with an attitude of compromise. If you’re asking for an extra day, it will likely be much better than if you’re asking for another week.
No matter what, it’s important to ask for the extension in a timely manner. If you were supposed to respond to the offer within 24 hours and you’re going on hour 23, that’s off to a bad start.

5. You’re considering another job offer

One of the most legitimate reasons for asking for an extension is that you’re considering another job offer. This is a great place for you to be in, as it gives you a leg up in the negotiations.
“It’s acceptable to let an employer know if you are considering another offer, particularly if that is the reason you are unable to make a quick decision. Knowing that there is competition may encourage an employer to make a more attractive offer,” sugtgests the career services office at Michigan State University. You’ll want to remain professional and avoid appearing boastful, but doing so will give you the time to evaluate the offers, while also giving the companies a chance to sweeten the deal for you.
“If you are in a high-demand field or you’re a highly sought-after candidate, the hiring manager will presume that you have more than one offer,” Chron suggests. However, just as lying on your resume is a recipe for disaster, so is lying during this process. If you don’t have competing offers, don’t make one up. “Whatever you do, don’t announce that you have competing offers just to delay the process while you shop around — don’t mislead the hiring manager with untruthful statements,” the publication advises.

Premier League: Arsene Wenger reveals he threw up after first loss as a coach

Arsene Wenger recalled throwing up after his first loss as coach as the Arsenal manager vowed to continue fighting.
The Frenchman is under pressure after his side suffered a humiliating 5-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League last-16 first leg.
Arsenal get a chance to take some of the focus off Wenger when they visit Sutton United in the FA Cup on Monday.
The former Nancy, Monaco and Nagoya Grampus coach remembered the pain of his first loss, and said nothing had changed.
"I'm a competitor. If I speak with my neighbour at six or seven, I was already competing for everything. I was born like that," Wenger said, via the club's website.
"When I lose games, of course it's difficult to take.
“Every defeat is harder. I can never transmit to you my feelings about defeats.
"A player when I managed for the first time at 33 or 34 said that after our first defeat I threw up. Whether you are young or old, every defeat hurts."
Wenger's future has been in the spotlight following the loss in Munich, with his contract expiring at the end of the season.
The 67-year-old has ruled out retirement and said his desire to bounce back was still great.
"I'm a positive person. I am a fighter, somewhere - you don't stay so long in this job otherwise," Wenger said.
"I've always seen the future in a positive way. I do not expect too much from outside, I expect more from me inside.
"The expectation level gets higher. The fight doesn't get higher. The fight is always tough.
"When you hate defeat like I hate defeat, it's always tough. I'm determined to always fight back."

Angelina Jolie Says She And Brad Pitt Will “Always Be A Family” Despite Divorce

The actress filed for divorce last year and although the pair have decided to go their separate ways, Angelina hopes the whole thing will make them a “stronger” unit.
Speaking to BBC World News , she said: “I don’t want to say very much about that, except to say it was a very difficult time and we are a family and we will always be a family, and we will get through this time and hopefully be a stronger family for it…
“Many, many people find themselves in this situation. My whole family, we’ve all being through a difficult time. My focus is my children, our children… and my focus is finding this way through.
“We are and forever will be a family. I am coping with finding a way through to make sure that this somehow makes us stronger and closer.”
The couple split after 11 years together, just months after their second wedding anniversary.

We needs positive contributors to development, says Osinbajo

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has declared that Nigeria is in need of men and women with strong character to contribute positively to the country’s economic and political development.
Osinbajo, who spoke at the 50th anniversary of the death of Ambassador Isa Wali, which held at the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja yesterday said although, people with such human values were not lacking in Nigeria, they needed to be identified and allowed to contribute to nation building.
Osinbajo described late Ambassador Wali as a crusader of social justice likening him to Martin Luther King of the United States of America and Nelson Mandela of South Africa, who, according to him fought for the rights of ordinary people in their nations.
Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and
, noted that late Wali was at the forefront of promoting the cause of women and their rights in northern Nigeria as well as the dignity of children.
According him, Wali spoke against violence against women, forced marriage and polygamy, which now has turned out to be a problem in the northern part of the country.

Malaysia recalls envoy after Kim killing

Malaysia has recalled its envoy to Pyongyang in an escalating row over the killing of Kim Jong-nam, the half-brother of North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un.
Kim Jong-nam died in mysterious circumstances last week at a Kuala Lumpur airport – police believe he was poisoned while waiting for a flight.
Malaysian police say they are now looking for four North Koreans.
Pyongyang’s envoy to Malaysia was also summoned over earlier comments he made.
Last week Kang Chol accused Kuala Lumpur of colluding with “hostile forces” and said that Malaysia had “something to conceal”, allegations that provoked an angry response from Malaysian authorities.
Despite widespread speculation that North Korea was behind the killing, there has been no definitive evidence and Pyongyang has made no public comment on the issue so far.
So far Malaysian police have detained one North Korean suspect, Ri Jong-chol, and said they are looking for four more men, who may have already left the country. Two women, an Indonesian and a Vietnamese, have also been arrested.
Malaysia was one of very few countries to maintain diplomatic relations with North Korea, but this killing has strained ties.
Over the last week Malaysia has refused to accede to North Korean demands to release Kim’s body into their custody without an autopsy, reports the BBC.
A Malaysian foreign ministry spokesman said on Monday that their Pyongyang ambassador had been recalled “for consultations”.

I don’t talk to monkeys – Fayose replies Sheriff

The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, had reacted to a statement credited to the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ali Modu Sheriff , where he said Governors Fayose and Nyesom Wike would be pushed out of the party.
Addressing people of his state on Ekiti Radio-91.5FM and EKTV on Saturday, Fayose said he does not talk to “monkeys.”
Quoting a passage from the Bible, the outspoken governor said all things will work for his good and the good of the PDP.
The Chairman of the PDP’s Governors Forum wondered who Sheriff would lead since most members of the party were on the side of Ahmed Makarfi.
He also urged members of the PDP who are aggrieved by the Port Harcourt Appeal Court ruling to “calm down.”
Fayose said, “On that comment by Sheriff that he will kick me and Gov Wike out of PDP, I don’t talk to monkeys. That Appeal Court judgement is just a phase, it will fizzle out. All things will work together for good for me, that’s what the Bible says.
“All the Governors, National Assembly members, BOT, etc are on this side. So who is he going to be leading?
“Whether he is being backed by whatever forces, be it external or internal, good luck to him.
“Let everybody in PDP calm down, there is salvation ahead of us.
“I’m aware that some people are apprehensive of 2018 but I want to say it here that they should worry not. What I know that will happen tomorrow is that I will get to greater heights.
“There are three major important factors in elections, the people is number one, followed by the party and the candidate. You can have a party and candidate, if you don’t have the people, you will fail because the power of the people is greater than the power of those of us in power.
“Here in Ekiti, we have the people.
“I am saying it here that we are under the leadership of the Ahmed Makarfi led Caretaker Committee.
“When we got the judgement at the lower court, affirming the Caretaker Committee, Sheriff was still parading himself as the chairman.”

Fayose condemns FG’s plan to ban Okada, says they will continue operations in Ekiti

Ekiti State Governor and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP) Governors’ Forum, Mr Ayodele Fayose has described as wicked plan by the
federal government to ban commercial motorcycle, popularly known as
Okada from the country saying; “In Ekiti State, we won’t ban
Okada because it is a source of livelihood to a lot of families. Why
would anyone even contemplate such when government did not create
alternative employments?”
He said; “With this economic recession that is biting so hard, it is
sheer heartlessness for the federal government to even think of
sending Okada riders out of business instead of putting machineries in
motion to check their excesses.”
According to a statement issued on Sunday, by his Special Assistant on
Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose,
who was addressing Okada riders that accosted him in Ikere Ekiti, on
his way from Abuja on Saturday, said, “ban on Okada will worsen the
country’s security situation because it will remove foods from the
table of so many people.”
The governor, who promised Okada riders in Ekiti State his continued
support and assistance, said; “The federal government has no power to
ban Okada in my State and under my watch, no one will prevent Okada
Riders from operating as long as they do not go against the laws.”
Governor Fayose said; “The hunger in the land is killing and most of
these Okada riders are graduates who have taken to commercial
motorcycling to survive because of unemployment. Many of them are even
those who lost their jobs within the 21 months of this All
Progressives Congress (APC) led federal government and government
workers, whose salaries are not being paid regularly. How does the
federal government expect them to feed if their means of livelihood is
taken away?
“If commercial motorcyclist is a major cause of fatal road traffic
accidents across the country, as posited by the federal government,
should proposing their ban be an option?
“Should we also say motor vehicles, especially heavy duty vehicles
should be banned from plying our roads because they also cause
accidents?
“Methinks the federal government should be concerned with the rate of
unemployment in the country and the deplorable state of our roads,
especially federal roads, instead of seeking to deprive Nigerians, who
have taken to riding Okada to save themselves and their families from
dying of hunger.”

Osinbajo’s visit brought peace to Niger Delta region – Mike Loyibo

The convener of the Niger Delta Peoples Congress, NDPC, Mike Loyibo on Saturday said the recent visit of the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo to the Niger Delta has brought peace to the region.
Recall that Osinbajo recently visited Bayelsa, Delta and Rivers States respectively.
During his visits to the oil rich region, the acting President engaged relevant stakeholders on how to bring relevant peace to the area.
Addressing journalists in Abuja, Loyibo claimed the ceasefire agreement secured with the militants who had carried out several attacks on oil installations would remain unbroken.
Loyibo noted that the acting President’s visit was part of the yearnings of the people who had longed for inclusion in the activities of the region.
He said, “When we assess the issues generally, my view has been that you can’t develop the Niger Delta without her people’s participation and this is the first time that any government ever is involving the critical stakeholders at all levels and so the consultation is a continuous one.
“The Acting President has visited Delta State, Bayelsa State, Rivers State and he was also in Imo State (Oil Producing) and now he’s slated to go to Ondo by Monday.
” So, these are some of the proposals and suggestions we gave to the presidency.”

Obasanjo created PDP’s current crisis – Doyin Okupe

A former Senior Special Assistant to then President Goodluck Jonathan on Public Affairs, Doyin Okupe, has attributed the current crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic party to “error” which started from the administration of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Okupe asserted that the error was further aggravated by the Jonathan’s administration.
He said the inability of the former ruling party to address the problem may affect the party in the next general election.
Speaking with Tribune, Okupe said, “Only God knows what will happen to the PDP. I am not in the habit of lying even when it comes to public discourse.
“PDP is heavily burdened and much of the burden is self-inflicted. In the last administration, an error was committed. Before we disengaged after we lost the election, we should have straightened the leadership of the party.
“We did not do that and that was a fundamental error. This gave room for all comers and pretenders to the throne; people who have not even learnt the ABC of politics to become leaders in PDP.
“There is a grand error in party administration in the country and I think it started from the Obasanjo administration. Once you are a governor, you become the leader of the party. This is a fallacy.”
Stressing that when PDP came, it brought an abnormal structure, Okupe said, “It is not PDP alone. If one party is sick, all parties in the country will become sick. AD, AC, ACN never went that way before. During the Second Republic, the governors were subordinates in the parties. When I was in the NRC and the NEC of the party was going to meet, the governors waited outside for the communiqué of our meeting. But, when the PDP came, it brought this abnormal structure.
“Do you know that when APC came, governors of the party are leaders in their states? That is a joke. It is politics of mercantilism. It is not going to work. If a governor contest an election and there are five people who slugged it out with him and he gets 35 per cent of the total votes, who made that governor the leader of the remaining 65 per cent?”
Okupe, however warned that the former ruling party was indulging in unnecessary arrogance that will further make it to fail.
He said, “From the time of Jonathan, the party has been extensively mauled, disparaged and destroyed within and outside this country by negative propaganda. And unfortunately, we were not able to sufficiently counter this propaganda.
“When Buhari’s government came, it finally buried the previous government and the party that brought that government to power. It will be impossible, except by the grace of God Almighty alone, to use the brand, PDP to win any election in the country again. PDP is indulging in an unnecessary arrogance that will further make it to fail.”

Astronomers find 60 new planets orbiting stars near solar system

Evidence of another 54 including hot ‘super-Earth’ planet called Gliese 411b
PHOTO CREDIT: Dailymail UK online .
In the hunt for life outside Earth, researchers have discovered 60 new planets orbiting stars near our solar system.Among the new planets is a hot ‘super-Earth’, called Gliese 411b, which has a rocky surface and is located in the fourth nearest star system to the sun.
Researchers say that the planet demonstrates that ‘virtually all’ the nearest stars to the sun have planets orbiting them, and some of these ‘could be like Earth.’
Of the new planets discovered, researchers say that one – Gliese 411b – stands out.
Gliese 411b is a hot super-Earth with a rocky surface located in the fourth nearest star system to the sun, making it the third nearest planetary system to the sun.
The group’s paper has been accepted for publication in The Astrophysical Journal.
The significance of its discovery demonstrates that virtually all the nearest stars to the sun have planets orbiting them.
The discovery was made by an international team of researchers, led by the University of Hertfordshire.
Along with the 60 new planets, the researchers found additional evidence of a further 54 planets, bringing the total number of potential new worlds to 114.
The results are based on almost 61,000 individual observations of 1,600 stars taken over a 20-year period by United States (U.S.) astronomers using the Keck-I telescope in Hawaii.
The observations were part of the Lick-Carnegie Exoplanet Survey, which was started in 1996 by astronomers Steve Vogt and Geoffrey Marcy from the University of California and Paul Butler, from the Carnegie Institute of Science, in Washington.
Dr. Mikko Tuomi, who led the study, said: “It is fascinating to think that when we look at the nearest stars, all of them appear to have planets orbiting them. This is something astronomers were not convinced about, even as little as five years ago.
“These new planets also help us better understand the formation processes of planetary systems and provide interesting targets for future efforts to image the planets directly.”
Butler added: “This paper and data release is one of my crowning achievements as an astronomer. It represents a good chunk of my life’s work.”
The team is hoping their decision will lead to a flurry of new science, as astronomers around the globe combine the HIRES data with their own existing observations, or mount new observing campaigns to follow up on potential signals.
The catalog release is part of a growing trend in exoplanet science to broaden the audience and discovery space, which has emerged in part to handle the aftermath of follow-up discoveries by NASA’s Kepler and K2 missions.

KEANE SLAMS POGBA AFTER SHOW OF BROTHERLY LOVE

The Manchester United legend was not impressed with the £89 million midfielder after he and his brother Florentin were reunited in the Europa League.
Roy Keane has slammed Paul Pogba after Manchester United’s win over Saint Etienne, insisting his show of brotherly love with sibling Florentin is a damning indictment on the “modern player."
Pogba v. Pogba a sideshow as Ibra takes centre stage
The Pogba brothers played against other for the first time in the Europa League encounter on Thursday night.
And though Keane’s former side United emerged victorious, winning 3-0 by virtue of a Zlatan Ibrahimovic hat-trick, the former firebrand midfielder was not impressed with the world’s most expensive footballer.
When asked on ITV if he was bothered by the show of affection between the brothers Pogba, Keane said he was elaborated .
"The boy, Pogba, he's a bit of a free spirit, a bit of a character. But I think it was a little bit over the top tonight - before the game and at half-time.
"They've spoke more tonight than I have to any of my brothers [Keane has three siblings; Denis, Pat and Johnson] in the last five years.
"It's all a bit strange. I think when the game started they were focused on the game.
"But all this stuff before and after the game, a lot of nonsense - but that's the modern player I'm afraid."
United face Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup on Sunday, prior to the second leg against Saint-Etienne in France next week.

Ways to beat recession .

Don't just do nothing. For those worried about what the future might bring being prepared could soften the blow.

Economists can call it what they like, but this week's depressing statistics confirmed many people's worst fears. What was a recession is swiftly turning into an economic slump, with home repossessions rocketing and unemployment topping the 2m mark.
There is worse to come, as lower consumer spending leads to further job and home losses, so it is vital that households protect themselves against a gathering storm. The adage ''forewarned is forearmed'' has never been more relevant.
With thousands of job cuts announced almost every day, it's hard to predict where the axe will fall next. While some companies will give plenty of notice of what is coming, to others redundancy will come as a shock. But there are ways you can plan in case the worst happens. Here are 12 tips to help you cope at work and on the home front.

AT WORK

1 Know the procedure
ADVERTISEMENT
If your firm has announced a redundancy program, it has to follow certain procedures. Make sure you know what these are, because if your employer does not follow them you can sue for unfair dismissal and could be awarded up to 90 days pay in compensation.
Sophie Whitbread, right, employment lawyer at Charles Russell, said: "Many employers will not be aware of or will choose to ignore what the law says about your rights, so if you do not know what your rights are, you could find yourself unfairly dismissed and without adequate compensation."
If your employer is getting rid of 20 or more staff, it has to consult more than 30 days before any redundancies, or 90 days if more than 100 employees are being axed.
Staff should also be consulted individually by their employer. There should be a "dismissal meeting'' where severance pay is discussed. Those whose job is going should be paid at least one week's pay for every full year of employment, and may get additional compensation if they do not work out their notice period.
2 Consider employment insurance now
It is still possible to take out an insurance policy against unemployment, as long as your company has not announced redundancies or possible job losses.
It's important to get the right policy, however, since some contain a number of exclusions and will not allow you to claim until you have been out of work for a long time.
British Insurance can provide you with a policy that would cover £1000 of income every month for £39 a month – which could give you peace of mind on continuing with your mortgage payments.
The policy will pay out if you are unemployed for 30 days or more, and there is no excess,www.britishinsurance.com
3 Check you are not being discriminated against
If you are an older worker, it is often more difficult to find a new job. That's why it is important to ascertain that your company is following the law and not selecting you for redundancy on the basis of age. Since October 1 2006, employers should no longer select for redundancy on the basis of age. The criteria should instead be based far more on merit – achieving targets, getting good appraisals, turning up to work on time and avoiding disciplinary problems. If large numbers of the people selected for redundancy are older, then you may be able to bring a claim for discrimination.
If you fear this may happen to you, check whether you have legal expenses insurance added to your home insurance policy. This could be invaluable if you end up bringing a claim.
Most insurers, including Norwich Union, Direct Line and Liverpool Victoria, sell this cover for about £20 a year. This will provide up to £50,000 towards legal fees if you decide to bring a case against your employer, be it for unfair dismissal or sexual, racial or age discrimination.
Those who successfully win a case of age discrimination will find that payouts are uncapped, while those who win an unfair dismissal claim could be awarded a maximum of £72,900.
4 Negotiate a tax-efficient payoff
If you do lose your job, check you are not paying too much tax. Only the first £30,000 of any redundancy payment is tax-free. Anything above this is taxed at your highest rate. So if you are still on your company's payroll then full PAYE deductions will be made on payments of more than £30,000. However, if this money is paid after you have left the company and received your P45, then only 20 per cent tax will be deducted immediately.
Employees will be required to account for the additional tax in their annual tax return, but as this will not have to be made for another year, this will give them a temporary cash flow advantage in the interim. Even with interest rates as low as they are, this money could be working for you, rather than Revenue & Customs.
5 Try to retain benefits
Ask your employer whether transitional benefits can be included in your leaving package. From the day you receive your P45 you may have six months or more with no life cover, medical insurance, or family income protection. It may be possible to at least retain this cover until the normal renewal date.
You would probably end up paying significantly more for the same cover if you tried to obtain it individually than the cost to the company – so this is particularly pertinent if you are unlikely to obtain another job with similar benefits in the near future.
6 Check your pension
Try to make sure pension accrual is included in your severance pay, as this can be worth significant sums. You could consider asking for part of your redundancy payment to be transferred into your pension. This will not attract National Insurance contributions, so you may be able to negotiate a higher payment without it costing your employer anything.

Home repossession is rising, and even those with relatively sensible mortgages may struggle if circumstances change. There is help if you come close to losing a home, and action you can take to avoid being in that position.
1 Take advantage in the good times
With interest rates at historic lows, monthly mortgage rates could be more than manageable. If your lender allows, you could overpay on your mortgage every month, which could provide a cushion if times get tough. Most lenders will allow some overpayments, often 10pc of the total you have borrowed every year. If your circumstances change, you might then be able to take a "mortgage holiday" to deal with the fallout. Overpaying can give you more equity in your home, meaning you could qualify for better deals when remortgaging.
2 Seek out good deals now
If you know you are coming to the end of a mortgage deal and fear you would not cope on your lenders' standard rate if rates rose, start researching deals. Use financial comparison sites or a mortgage broker such as London & Country to find the best.
3 If you are struggling, talk to your mortgage lenders
It is in no one's best interest for your house to be repossessed. Most lenders have procedures to help you if you are struggling, and may change your mortgage to interest-only for a period or consider reduced payments.
Michael Coogan, CML director general, said the first step for anyone struggling to pay a mortgage would be to contact their lender and get advice. "If you take positive action to contact your lender, pay what you can, and show up to court and make your case, you are more likely to reach an agreement with your lender that allows you to stay in your home," he said.
4 Know what help is available
The Government is in the process of launching three schemes to help home owners stay in their homes, although not everyone will be eligible. Those who are out of work may be eligible for income support for the unemployed, which is already up and running. You will be able to apply for this at the same time as other benefits if you are eligible.
At the really desperate end of the scale, the Mortgage Rescue scheme will buy back people's homes and lease them back to them.
Almost every local authority has signed up for this scheme, so this may be an option for people who have no chance of paying their mortgage.
We are still, however, waiting for final details of the mortgage support scheme, which may be the most useful. This scheme would allow those who lose their jobs (even if another member of the household is working) to defer mortgage payments for up to two years. It is expected to be launched next month pending further discussions with lenders.
Adam Sampson, head of housing charity Shelter, said it was still not clear how many lenders would sign up or how many households would be accepted. "People need this help now," he said. "The predictions are that 81,000 families a month will have their homes repossessed in 2009."
Further information on these schemes is available from advice services such as Citizens Advice, National Debtline, Shelter, and your local authority.
5 Don't bury your head in the sand
If you can't pay your mortgage, don't try to forget about it. A mortgage should be the first thing paid, ahead of credit card bills and other debts. "Ignoring your debt problems will only make them worse. Positive action will help you find ways to solve them," said David Harker, head of Citizens Advice. "Don't ignore letters or telephone calls from your lender; if you are not sure what they mean ask your lender or a debt adviser."
6 Don't just hand the keys back
In the early Nineties, stories abounded of home owners running away from their homes and posting the keys through their lenders' doors. Do not assume you can walk away like this. If the mortgage lender then sells your property for less than your mortgage, you could still be responsible for the extra debt and may be pursued years later. You will also still be responsible for the mortgage until the bank sells the home.

Male infertility .

Male Infertility: Causes, Treatment And Prevention. Infertility affects approximately 1 out of every 6 couples. An infertility diagnosis is given to a couple who are unable to conceive over the course of one year. When the problem lies with the male partner it is referred to as male infertility. Male infertility factors contribute to approximately 30% of all infertility cases, and male infertility alone accounts for approximately one-fifth of all infertility cases. What causes male infertility? There are four main causes of infertility in males: A hypothalamic or pituitary disorder (1-2%) Gonad disorder (30-40%) Sperm transport disorder (10-20%) Unknown causes (40-50%) Much research remains to be performed on the topic of male infertility, as many cases still receive an “unknown cause” diagnosis. Male infertility usually occurs because of sperm that are abnormal, because of inadequate numbers of sperm, or problems with ejaculation. Sperm can be considered abnormal for two possible reasons: unusually short life span of the sperm and/or low mobility. Sperm abnormalities may be caused by one or more of the following: Inflammation of the testicles Swollen veins in the scrotum Abnormally developed testicles Reasons for a low sperm count or lack of sperm include one or more of the following: A pre-existing genetic condition Use of alcohol, tobacco or other drugs Severe mumps infection after puberty Hernia repairs Hormone disorder Exposure to poisonous chemicals Exposure to radiation Blockage caused from a previous infection Wearing restrictive or tight underwear Injury to the groin area Male infertility can also occur when there are problems with ejaculation. Ejaculation problems may include any of the following: Premature ejaculation Retrograde ejaculation, which occurs when the semen is forced back into the bladder Erection dysfunctions Complications from radiation therapy or surgery Other causes of male infertility can include: History of STD’s Urinary tract infections Use of certain types of medications How is male infertility diagnosed? Potential male infertility will be assessed as part of a thorough physical examination. The examination will include a medical history regarding potential contributing factors. Your healthcare provider may use one or more of the following tests to assess fertility: Semen analysis to determine the number and quality of sperm Blood test to check for infections or hormone problems. Hormone levels are just as important in male fertility as they are in female fertility Making a culture of fluid from the penis to check for infections Physical examination of the penis, scrotum and prostate Semen analysis is the most important part of male fertility testing. Some men find it more comfortable to do semen analysis testing in the privacy of their own homes. In-home testing kits are available. What are they looking for in the testing? When semen analysis is done, your health care provider will be looking for some specific markers to access fertility. Total amount or volume of semen – 2 milliliters is considered normal. A lower amount may indicate an issue with the seminal vesicles, blocked ducts or a prostate gland issue. Sperm count – 20 million to 300 million per milliliter is considered in the normal range for sperm counts. Below 10 million is considered “poor.” Morphology – the size and shape of the sperm affect the sperms ability to reach and fertilize an egg. 30% is considered a good amount of sperm that are shaped “normal.” And “strict” testing shows an even lower percentage as normal. Motility – movement and number of active cells. Movement is rated from 0-4, with score over 3 considered good. The amount of active cells is rated in percentages from 1-100%, with 50% considered the minimum. How is male infertility treated? Male infertility is most often treated by conventional methods that include one or more of the following: Taking medications to help increase sperm production Taking antibiotics to heal an infection Taking hormones to improve hormone imbalance Avoiding taking long hot showers, using hot tubs or saunas Wearing looser underwear such as boxer shorts versus jockey shorts Sperm production may also improve by taking clinically proven supplements. Anything that increases the number of healthy sperm increases the chances of conception. Many health food stores and vitamin shops offer male fertility supplements. Shop for male fertility supplements. Artificial insemination is an option if the man’s sperm count is low. In this procedure, sperm is collected through multiple ejaculations. They are then manually placed in the female’s uterus or fallopian tubes. In vitro fertilization is another option that can be used to overcome male infertility factors. In this procedure, the sperm and egg are fertilized in a laboratory after which the fertilized egg is placed in the female’s uterus. If tests show that there is no sperm production or that other related problems are present, donor sperm can be used to help facilitate conception. In this procedure, donor sperm are obtained from a sperm bank and placed inside the female’s uterus or fallopian tubes through artificial insemination. Can Male Infertility Be Prevented? There is usually nothing that can be done to prevent male infertility caused by genetic problems or illness. However, there are actions that men can take to decrease the possibility of infertility. These include: Avoiding sexually transmitted diseases Avoiding illicit drugs Avoiding radiation when possible Avoiding exposure to toxic substances Avoiding heavy or frequent use of alcohol Observing good personal hygiene and health practices Avoiding long, hot baths, hot tubs or saunas Wearing loose-fitting underwear

How will Wenger's future at arsenal football club be decided .

From all indications we have seen that Wenger's time at arsenal Fc is ticking and the hand writing on the wall is very clear and it becomes clearer everyday.
Going by the actions and reactions combined with response from their last match we can draw almost a conclusion .

Wednesday's 5-1 mauling of arsenal by Bayern Munich .

Fans rise against Gunners’ boss                       Arsenal Captain, Laurent Koscielny admitted Arsenal “cracked” under pressure on one of the worst nights of Arsene Wenger’s 20-year reign, reports mirror.co.uk.
Koscielny was brutally honest amid the inquest into their 5-1 thrashing at Bayern Munich, which leaves manager Wenger increasingly likely to leave the club in the summer.
Arsenal fell apart after Koscielny went off injured early in the second half with the match all-square at 1-1, conceding three times in 11 minutes, and the France defender suggested Wednesday night’s humiliation raises serious questions about the team spirit.
That defeat merely underlined the cracks in Wenger’s Arsenal, and is why the fans are demanding change this summer. The Allianz Arena’s away dressing room was a scene of despair and disappointment post-match, but there was also an element of the blame game being played as players pointed the finger at each other.
There is a strong belief star forward Alexis Sanchez has already decided to leave the club this summer and his body language during the game – one picture showing him down on his haunches in one half of the pitch, watching his team trudge back to halfway after conceding again in the other, went viral afterwards – told its own story.
Sanchez bawled out Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain several times as Arsenal suffered in the 90 minutes, and their frustration with each other carried on into the changing room.
French champions Paris Saint-Germain, who stunned Barelona 4-0 in their first leg on Tuesday, and perennial Italian kings Juventus are locked in a battle to sign the Chilean.
Mesut Ozil had an awful game, but was not substituted yet again — to the amazement of some players. The German midfielder’s demands for a new deal worth £250,000-a-week, despite his appalling dip in form, has enraged supporters.
Arsenal’s 3,500 travelling fans in Allianz Arena witnessed unprecedented fighting among themselves as the split over whether Wenger should stay or go has brought them to blows.
One witness said: “It was like a war-zone in there. “It’s happened before, but this was the worst by far. You would have thought it was Arsenal and Tottenham fans fighting – but it was Arsenal fans fighting among themselves.”
That shows how much tension there is over Wenger’s future. Mirror Sport understands that senior pros believe the uncertainty has become a huge issue, which is threatening to derail their whole season.
A few weeks ago, players believed Wenger was staying. Now most think he is going and his staff do not know for certain either as he always keeps his cards close to his chest.
Those close to Wenger believe it will be his last season. But it has left players like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jack Wilshere and Kieran Gibbs uncertain over their futures as they have just 18 months left on their deals.
They are being kept in the dark while Arsenal look to resolve Wenger’s future and the contract situations with Sanchez and Ozil.
Senior players still hold the Frenchman in the highest regard and respect him as a nice man and good manager. But they simply do not do as much work on tactics or preparation as some other big clubs, and they were horribly exposed by Bayern.

Champions League: Wenger no longer thinks well – Keown, Dixon .

Former Arsenal defenders, Martin Keown and Lee Dixon have slammed Arsene Wenger and his team after Wednesday’s 5-1 trashing in the Champions League round-of-sixteen first leg at Bayern Munich.
Before last night’s humiliation by Bayern, Wenger’s Gunners had suffered back-to-back Premier League defeats, killing their title hopes.
Some ex-players of the club are questioning Wenger’s longevity at the Emirate Stadium as Arsenal look set for a seventh successive round-of-16 exit.
Alexis Sanchez cancelled out Arjen Robben’s opener but Robert Lewandowski, Thomas Muller, Thiago’s strikes ensured the Germans will go into the second leg relaxed.
According to Keown this was the nadir of the 67-year-old Wenger’s over 20-year-old reign.
He told BT Sport, “It’s almost embarrassing — outclassed, outplayed.
“This is his lowest point ever. Twenty years and Arsene must be considering his future now. Arsenal were bullied, weren’t they? Completely.
“The difference between the two squads, they [Bayern] were men against boys, they were bigger and stronger.”
Also, former centre-back Keown, who won three Premier League titles under Wenger, noted that the result could seal Wenger’s decision not to extend his stay at Arsenal beyond the end of the season, when his current contract expires.
“[Wenger] looked particularly wounded.
“He just seems so low.
“I think he’s realising that with this team he’s getting no response from them. They’re not doing themselves justice or him.
“I feel for him; he almost needs to be protected from himself. This is 20 years of work here. He’s been magnificent for the club.
“This brings forward the change that looks likely at the end of the season. I think it will be him that makes the decision. The realisation that the decision needs to be made is more apparent tonight.
“That is the first time where I’ve seen him where I’ve thought, ‘he thinks it’s time’. The fact that he hasn’t been able to get a response from the players in the last few weeks might be the final straw.”

Three things that will qualify you to be a bus conductor in lagos nigeria .

Mr Israel Adeshola, the National President of Bus Conductors Association of Nigeria (BCAN), says that as from March it is mandatory for bus conductors in Lagos state to wear uniforms, name tags and badges. Adeshola, who made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Thursday, said that the Lagos State government has approved wearing of uniforms and badgesHe said that the use of badges and wearing of uniforms by over 3,000 bonafide members got the approval of the government on Monday. *A Lagos bus conductor on the beat. “We are in collaboration with Lagos state government on the issue of badges and uniforms for commercial conductors, which was finalised on Monday. “This is because we don’t want to start without the government’s approval. So by first week of March we will roll them out,’’ he said. Adeshola explained that the introduction of uniforms, name tags and badges had become necessary to enforce decorum and ensure safety of duly registered members and members of the public. According to him, with the vital information on the badge, any conductor involved in crime can easily be identified and apprehended. The national president explained that the novel idea was being experimented in Lagos state before other states can take a cue.

Another Arsenal humiliation .

Arsenal were even with Bayern Munich into the second half at the Allianz Arena. Not only that, they were playing well and creating chances. Forget trying to hold onto the 1-1 scoreline in the first leg and go home in great position — the Gunners rightly felt like they could nab a second goal. Maybe even win.
Then it all fell apart in 10 minutes.
Robert Lewandowski got a running start on a stand-still Shkodran Mustafi, who was glued to the ground as Bayern Munich took the lead.Three minutes later, it was Lewandowski again, this time with the sumptuous backheel.
And finally, Thiago Alcantara completed his brace.

Just like that, Arsenal were done.
They weren’t hoping for a win anymore. They weren’t even looking at a draw. The mere idea of staging a comeback in the second leg looks fanciful at best. They were completely buried and set to go out of the Champions League in the round of 16 for the seventh straight season. The same Arsenal they’ve always been.
If this were any other team, we would bemoan their “misfortune.” After all, they drew Bayern Munich. That’s horrific luck. And Laurent Koscielny got hurt, which is a killer. And Lewandowski’s go-ahead goal was more a display of how good the Bavarians are, with Philipp Lahm hitting pinpoint crosses and Lewandowski as good in the air as anyone in the world. The second goal was Lewandowski being absolutely brilliant, again. And then it took a deflection to turn Thiago’s shot, which David Ospina looked set to save, into one that went in off his foot.
That’s a string of very bad luck and not one that would reflect a team’s failure, but this is no regular team. This is Arsenal. It’s Arsene Wenger making excuses after the match. It’s holes on the team that they’ve refused to fill for years. It’s a (soon-to-be) seventh consecutive round of 16 elimination. And, of course, it comes not two weeks after a loss to Chelsea that all but ruled them out of the Premier League title race. The whole thing is so bad that Thomas Muller’s late goal to make it 5-1 barely even mattered.
It’s just so Arsenal.
This is Arsenal’s reality. And all the talk about this being Wenger’s last season at the Emirates — his contract expires after the season and Juventus boss Max Allegri has been linked to a North London move — will only get louder. It doesn’t matter that sometimes players get hurt because Arsenal have had so many injuries over the years that Koscileny’s won’t just be looked at as bad luck. To some, it will be irrelevant that Mustafi has been largely good this season and that he couldn’t get off the ground against Lewandowski will lead to questions about whether he was a good signing. While we were watching in amazement at Lewandowski’s backheel, so was the Arsenal defense and that too will come into question. Even Wenger’s decision to start Ospina over Petr Cech, despite the fact that the deflection left the goalkeeper with nearly no chance on the final tally, will be doubted.
All of this would be surprising if it hadn’t been the norm for years. So they will have to answer those questions. They’ll have to defend themselves. They’ll have to explain why things are still OK. And frankly, they weren’t too bad because for most of the match, Arsenal looked about as good as you could expect for a team taking on Bayern Munich at the Allianz. But talking around problems and looking on the bright side got old at the Emirates long ago.

So they’ll have to talk about those 10 minutes. Those three goals. How good Bayern Munich are. How they could let that happen … again. And why the last time they made the Champions League quarterfinals, “Break Your Heart” by Taio Cruz was the No. 1 song in America. Good luck trying to explain that way.

Protest in france

The French police officer charged with anally raping a black man with his baton during an arrest on Feb. 2 did so accidentally, according to an investigation report prepared by the national police.
A 22-year-old man — identified only as Theo — suffered serious injuries after he was stopped, beaten, allegedly raped, and arrested by a group of four police officers in Aulnay-sous-Bois, a suburb north of Paris. One officer was charged with rape and assault, and three other officers were charged with assault.
Parts of the incident — not including the alleged assault — were captured on video.
Theo told French TV station BFMTV on Feb. 6 that the officer “took his baton and kicked it into my buttocks,” and that he had trouble walking after the attack.
“I was not even myself," he said. "I thought I was going to die."
Protesters have taken to the streets across the country — from Aulnay-sous-Bois to Lille and Marseille — since Theo’s attack.
On Feb. 9, the Inspection Generale de la Police Nationale (IGPN) submitted its collection of notes and observations to the judge in charge of the case, acknowledging the sodomization but denying the rape charge.
In the report, reviewed by French news outlet Le Chaine Info (LCI) and radio station RTL, officers state that the incident was “very serious, undoubtedly, it can be violence that has resulted in permanent disability, but it is not rape.”
Police called the incident an example of an “operation that goes wrong,” according to LCI. They wrote that Theo had resisted arrest, prompting the officer to use his baton to force him to the ground.
The report denied claims that police had pulled Theo’s pants down, but did not explain how the baton entered him.
Speaking to the a congressman on Tuesday about the riots that took place across the country demanding justice for the victim — who has been identified only as Theo — French Interior Minister Bruno Le Rouxreferred to the alleged sexual assault as a "tragic accident," echoing the police report.
He later walked back his use of the term, calling it "inappropriate."
On Feb. 7, French President François Hollande visited Theo in the hospital andsaid he acted with dignity and responsibility.

Aulnay-sous-Bois Mayor Bruno Beschizza released a statement on Feb. 9 acknowledging that the protests were “legitimate and necessary,” and appealing for peace and calm as the investigation continues.
